Kalighat, Aug 24: On 23/08/2025, a Jan Sunwai was conducted at Kalighat Panchayat Hall under the chairmanship of Smti. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (District), North & Middle Andaman, along with Shri. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur and SI S.N. Halder, SHO, PS Kalighat.
The programme witnessed the active participation of over 80 persons, including Pradhans, Zilla Parishad members, PRI members and the general public. During the session, the participants raised their grievances on issues such as illegal sale of liquor, traffic and parking, the need for police deployment at prominent locations, need for awareness on drugs abuse, etc.
Addressing the gathering, SP (D) N&MA heard all grievances and assured the participants that the Police Department would take necessary measures to address these concerns. She emphasized that community cooperation is vital for ensuring effective solutions and maintaining peace and order in the region.
Further, an awareness session was also conducted during the programme, focusing on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations. The session aimed to sensitize the public, encourage responsible behavior, and foster a culture of collective responsibility towards building a safe society.
In her concluding remarks, SP (D) N&MA urged all participants to extend their cooperation by promptly sharing any credible intelligence regarding drug abuse, criminal activities, or other unlawful practices in their areas. She emphasized that timely information from the public would enable the Police to take firm legal action against offenders and help in creating a safer and crime-free society for all.
The general public is requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to any crime or illegal activities to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. The identity of the informers will be kept secret and will also be suitably rewarded.
