Sri Vijaya Puram, July 3: The Legal Metrology Wing of the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has been actively working towards safeguarding the interest of the consumers against any unfair trade practices.
On the early morning of 28.06.2025, the Enforcement Team of the Directorate of CS &CA conducted special enforcement drive in fish markets situated at Junglighat, Mohanpura and Dignabad and other prominent places around municipal region of Sri Vijaya Puram against the use of tampered & unverified weights by the fish vendors with the intent to deceive the public.
During the inspection, certain fish vendors were found using iron weights which were unverified or underweight. Accordingly, the weights and weighing scale were seized on the spot and cases have been booked against 15 fish vendors for use of such weights which is under process as per the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Rules framed thereunder.
All the traders, especially fish vendors have been advised to use only the duly verified & stamped weights and refrain from any unfair practices which may lead to exploitation of consumers failing which, stringent legal action as deemed fit will be initiated against them as per the provision of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
Consumers have been requested that any information regarding traders involved in any kind of illegal trade practice may be brought to the notice of the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs in writing or over Toll Free No 18003453197.
