National Dengue Day with the Theme ‘Community Participation in Dengue Control: Check, Clean and Cover’ Observed in the Isles

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 18: National Dengue Day was observed on May 16 throughout these Islands. In this connection, an inaugural function was held at the Bio-Chemistry Demonstration Room (Old AYUSH Building), ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram, in coordination with the UT Health Mission and the Directorate of Health Services, on the theme: ‘Community Participation in Dengue Control: Check, Clean and Cover.’

Dr. H. M. Siddaraju, Director of Health Services and Joint MD (NHM), as the chief guest thanked the students for their cooperation in reducing the incidence of dengue in the A&N Islands. He also emphasized that vector control is everyone’s responsibility and can be effectively achieved through collective cooperation.

Dr. B. Ajit Kumar, Deputy Director (Malaria)/Joint Secretary (NVBDCP), gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the vectors transmitting dengue and vector bionomics. He appealed to the students to identify mosquito breeding sites and larvae-containing vessels/water storage containers in and around their houses. He also advised them to empty water containers once a week by observing a ‘Dry Day’.

Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (Health), emphasized the importance of early treatment and vector control in preventing dengue. Earlier, Smti. Durga Devi, Assistant Malaria Officer, NVBDCP Unit, SVP, welcomed the gathering.
