Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 18: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit–II of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Pahargaon, Sri Vijaya Puram, successfully organized a Regular NSS Camp on 17th January 2026 at Beodnabad Village, Prothrapur Tehsil, South Andaman. The programme was conducted as part of both NSS regular activities and the Rural Internship Programme, aimed at providing students with experiential learning through community engagement.

A total of 34 NSS volunteers from B.Tech First Year actively participated in the camp under the guidance of Dr. E. Muthu Kumaran, NSS Programme Officer (Unit–II). The programme was graced by Mr. Vivekanand D. Naik, Assistant Director, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), as the Chief Guest. The camp was also supported by faculty members Mrs. Anupama Rai, Assistant Professor (Chemistry), Mr. Harshvardhan Barik, Assistant Professor (Computer Science), Mr. Prabhu Ganchi, Assistant Professor (Civil Engineering), and Mr. Bhoominathan, NSS Clerk.

As part of the village adoption initiative, Beodnabad Village has been adopted by NSS Unit–II for the period 2025–2027 to conduct regular and special camps focusing on rural development, awareness generation, and student internships. The Rural Internship Programme enabled students to interact directly with the villagers, understand rural issues, and contribute through service-based learning.

A community meeting was held at the village community hall, where Shri Paramashivam, Pradhan of Beodnabad Village, and Smti Pachaiammal, Panchayat Samiti Member, addressed the gathering. Shri Paramashivam shared his personal experiences and highlighted several issues faced by villagers, particularly related to mobile frauds, misuse of telecom services, and One-Time PAssword (OTP) related problems. These concerns were addressed through expert interaction and awareness sessions.

As part of the internship and outreach activities, an Awareness Programme on the Sanchar Saathi App was conducted jointly by NSS volunteers and Sanchar Mitra Volunteers, with support from officials of the Department of Telecommunications. The session focused on:

• Prevention of telecom frauds

• Reporting spam and suspicious communications through Chakshu

• Verifying mobile connections issued in an individual’s name

• Blocking and tracing lost or stolen mobile phones

Through this Rural Internship Programme, students gained valuable insights into grassroots-level governance, rural digital challenges, and community problem-solving, while villagers benefited from improved awareness of telecom safety and government digital initiatives.

The programme concluded successfully with active participation from villagers, volunteers, faculty members, and officials, reinforcing the NSS objective of community service and experiential learning under the motto “Not Me, But You”.
