PwC India Foundation Launches its Solar Energy Initiative in A&N Islands, Marking a Shift from Diesel-powered Electricity to Renewable Energy

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 23: “Addressing the energy needs of communities is a vital step toward improving livelihoods in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” says Jaivir Singh, Vice Chairman, PwC India Foundation. “At the PwC India Foundation, we are committed to creating sustainable solutions that reduce carbon footprints and support a greener, more resilient future for the islands. This solar initiative builds on our ongoing work with the Wandoor panchayat and local stakeholders over the past few years, including efforts around solid waste management and menstrual hygiene – all aimed at supporting the well-being of communities in a meaningful way.”

This initiative offers a reliable energy source, decreases pollution, and enhance community well-being by powering the Government Middle Primary School, Gram Panchayat, Government Anganwadi, Public Health Care Centres and local shops with solar energy. It is projected to save 25 to 30 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually and reduce reliance on diesel. Through this, we aim to drive behavioural change and future investments through demonstrated carbon and financial savings.
