
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 4: SBI Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Sri Vijaya Puram, organised a Swachhata Hi Seva programme at its premises with great enthusiasm on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The programme commenced with the garlanding of the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi by the Chief Guest, Dr. Apurva Sharma, DANICS, Director of Rural Development, PRIs and ULBs.
Dr. Sharma also inaugurated a new training batch on Cakes, Pastry and Baking. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sharma expressed his happiness over the trainees, particularly the women who had travelled from distant islands, taking their first step towards acquiring new skills and becoming self-reliant. He urged the trainees to make full use of the training and work towards achieving success and financial independence.
Dr. Sharma encouraged the trainees to explore the use of locally available resources and ingredients in preparing sweets and bakery products, so that tourists visiting the Islands could take home unique local products as a memorable souvenir.
The trainees presented a colourful cultural programme, including Ram Dhun, a skit on Swachhata, and a traditional dance, adding enthusiasm and vibrancy to the occasion.
The programme began with a welcome address by Shri C. Raj, Director, SBI RSETI, who welcomed the Chief Guest, other guests and the trainees.
As a gesture of appreciation for the dedicated services rendered by the sanitation workers of Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Corporation, three women Safai Karamcharis were felicitated by the Chief Guest.
The programme concluded with a beach-cleaning drive undertaken by the trainees and staff of SBI RSETI. The participants collected plastic and other waste from the beach, filling five gunny bags, reaffirming their commitment towards cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
The programme was compered by young trainees Mr. John and Ms. Vineeta, who conducted the proceedings with enthusiasm and confidence.
