South Andaman Police Intensifies Drive Against Drugs and Illicit Liquor Sale Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 23: As part of its sustained commitment towards building a Drug-Free Society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, South Andaman District Police has been conducting a series of concentrated efforts to curb the menace of drugs in various areas under the jurisdiction of South Andaman District.

During the last 60 days, the district police has registered 15 cases under the NDPS Act, seizing a total of 1.05257 Kg of Meth, 523.75 gm Charas and 7.77355 Kg of Ganja and arrested 33 accused persons. In addition, 62 Excise cases were also registered, with 360.305 litres of IMFL and 58 Kg of Handia seized and 62 individuals apprehended for their involvement in the illegal sale and distribution of liquor. All seized drugs and illicit liquor were taken into custody on the spot after observing all codal and legal formalities and cases have been registered at the concerned police stations under the NDPS Act and Excise Regulation Act.

Further, more than 50 awareness programmes have been conducted at various locations across South Andaman District. In which, 23 programmes were conducted in various schools, covering approximately 3,672 students and 161 teachers with the objective of sensitizing and educating them about the harmful effects of drug abuse, alcohol addiction and illicit trafficking. Several awareness programmes were also conducted at various public places, benefiting approximately 1300 general public with a focus on promoting awareness regarding the adverse consequences of substance abuse and encouraging community participation in preventing drug-related activities.

The district police has also strengthened the social media outreach with 06 motivational videos featuring prominent personalities from the Islands, namely Dr. P. P. Mohd. Mustafa, Dr. Rashida Iqbal, Mr. Shiyad, Ms. R. Sanjana, Ms. Disha Singh and Ms. Sayantika Mistry being disseminated. The videos aimed to sensitize and educate students as well as the general public about the harmful physical, psychological, social and legal consequences of drug and alcohol abuse, create awareness regarding the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and emphasize the importance of resisting peer pressure, making informed and responsible life choices and adopting a healthy drug-free lifestyle.

South Andaman District Police appeals to the general public to actively cooperate in this drive by sharing any credible information regarding drugs, or the illegal sale, storage, or transportation of liquor.
