“Sundays on Cycle” – A&N Police Promotes Community Fitness under FIT INDIA Movement

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 24: The Andaman & Nicobar Police, in collaboration with the Department of Sports and the Sports Authority of India, successfully organized the “Sundays on Cycle” campaign on 24th August 2025 at 0600 hrs. This initiative was held under the aegis of the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs as part of the FIT INDIA Movement, with the central theme “Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”.

The event featured a 3 km cycling rally, starting from the historic National Memorial Cellular Jail and concluded at Netaji Stadium Gate, Sri Vijaya Puram. The campaign aimed to make fitness an integral part of daily life for citizens and promote cycling as a healthy and sustainable activity.

The event was flagged-off by Shri Manoj Kumar Meena, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (District), and Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (CID). The entire campaign was organized under the supervision of Smt. Niyati Mittal, Superintendent of Police (Armed Police Unit), Police Lines.

A total of 65 participants, including officers, personnel from the Andaman & Nicobar Police, officials & sports personnel from the Department of Sports and the Sports Authority of India, and the general public, enthusiastically joined the cycling drive. Their collective participation reinforced the message of fitness and healthy living, inspiring youth to dedicate at least 30 minutes daily for physical activity and embrace cycling as a regular practice.

Concluding the event, Smt. Niyati Mittal, SP (APU), encouraged all participants to adopt cycling as part of their fitness routine and emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She urged everyone to make “Aadha Ghanta Roz” a daily habit for overall physical and mental well-being, and to dedicate at least one day a week, preferably Sundays, for cycling.

Adding further inspiration, Miss Deborah, ASI (A&N Police)—an internationally acclaimed cyclist and world-ranking athlete from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands—shared her journey and motivated the participants to engage in regular exercise and sports activities. Her message highlighted the role of cycling and fitness in leading a disciplined, healthy, and productive life.

The “Sundays on Cycle” campaign not only promotes health and fitness but also advocates for an eco-friendly mode of transportation, aligning with the national vision for a cleaner and greener environment.
