
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 10: To commemorate the 165th Birth Anniversary of Guru Rabindranath Tagore, the Department of Art & Culture, A & N Administration organized a programme at Andaman Club last Friday. The event featured cultural programmes, honouring Tagore’s literary and artistic contributions.
The Director, Art & Culture, Smt. Priyanka Kumari as the chief guest paid floral tributes at the portrait of Guru Rabindranath Tagore followed by others present in the Andaman Club.
In her brief address, she said that ‘Rabindra Jayanti’ marks the birthday of the Nobel Laureate Poet, Writer and Philosopher Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, whose works have profoundly influenced Bengali literature, music and Indian culture. She further enlightened the gathering about the contribution of Tagore in the freedom struggle and its relevance today. She urged the younger generations to take inspirations from the works of Tagore.
Smti Kalyani Halder, PGT, GSSS Diglipur spoke about the life and teachings of the Nobel Laureate Poet, Writer, and Philosopher Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. She also recited a poem dedicated to Tagore.
Earlier, the Assistant Director, Art & Culture, Ms Kanak Radha Chatterjee welcomed the gathering on the occasion.
Paying cultural homage to Tagore’s legacy, the Artistes of Sur Saptak Sangeet Akademy, Jhumur Nrityangana and Sujata Dance Akademy presented Rabindra Sangeet and dance befitting the occasion.
