Sri Vijaya Puram, April 17: The VIII State Level League-cum-Knockout Football Tournament for Under-17 (Boys & Girls) was inaugurated by Shri Aditya Sangotra, Director (Education) today at Netaji Stadium. In his address, he emphasized that such events will provide an excellent platform to showcase the hidden talents of young footballers. He highlighted that this tournament presents a golden opportunity for girl students, as the winning girls team will represent the islands for the first time in the history of the Subroto Cup along with Boys Team.
He also extended his best wishes to all nine educational zone teams, both boys and girls, for their participation in the tournament.
In U-17 Boys, Wimberlygunj defeated Mayabunder by 2-0, Car Nicobar defeated Diglipur by 8-0, Little Andaman defeated Sri Vijaya Puram by 3-2, Nancowrie defeated Wimberligunj by 2-0 and Campbell bay defeated Rangat by 2-1. In U-17 (Girls), Diglipur defeated Rangat by 2-0, Car Nicobar defeated Little Andaman by 1-0, Sri Vijaya Puram defeated Wimberligunj by 11-3 and Nancowrie defeated Campbell Bay by 3-0.
