Sri Vijaya Puram, June 15: On the occasion of “World Blood Donor Day” 2025, A&N AIDS Control Society organized a blood donation camp in co-ordination with Dr. Ritika’s Diagnostic Solution Multi-Speciality Hospital in association with Blood Bank, G. B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram on 14th June 2025 at Dr. Ritika’s Diagnostic Solution Multi-Speciality Hospital. Several voluntary donors came forward to donate blood, contributing to the noble cause and marking the significance of World Blood Donor Day 2025.
The World Blood Donor Day was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. H.M. Siddaraju, Deputy Director Family Welfare, A & N Administration. He was joined by Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, ANACS / Director, SBTC, and Dr. Shiv Shankar Singh, Senior Consultant (Medicine), Dr. Ritika’s Diagnostic Solution Multi-Speciality Hospital marking the beginning of the World Blood Donor Day celebrations.
On the occasion Dr. H.M. Siddaraju spoke passionately about the importance of voluntary blood donation. Highlighting this year’s theme, “Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Save Lives,”. He reminded everyone that the need for safe blood is constant and crucial, especially during surgeries, accidents, and serious medical treatments.
Dr. Subrata Saha expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries and voluntary blood donors for their invaluable support to this noble cause. Speaking at the special event, Dr. Saha emphasized the vital importance of regular blood donation and shared the historical background of this global observance.
He noted that June 14 was chosen to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Karl Landsteiner, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who discovered the ABO blood group system—an achievement that revolutionized transfusion medicine. Dr. Saha also called for greater participation in blood donation drives, especially among students, to help prevent shortages in the islands and to build a strong culture of voluntary blood donation.
Dr. Shiv Shankar Singh extended his heartfelt thanks to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) for accepting their request to host the World Blood Donor Day event at Dr. Ritika’s Diagnostic Solution Multi-Speciality Hospital. He shared that it was a matter of great pride and honour for the hospital to be part of such a meaningful occasion.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Shri Senthil Nathan, VBD Incharge.
The Blood Donation was facilitated by the Dr. Kauseen, Junior Resident, Blood Bank. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation.
The technical team from Blood Bank, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair and A & N AIDS Control Society ensured that the donated blood units are screened for the blood transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility. Donors certificate were also distributed to the voluntary donors.
