
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 4: The Zoological Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre and EIACP Centre on Island Biodiversity, organised a drawing competition as part of the observance of Wildlife Week 2026, with the theme “Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife,” on 2nd October 2026. The competition encouraged students to express their understanding of biodiversity and habitat conservation through art. Their drawings explored wildlife protection, ecological balance, human-wildlife coexistence and the interconnectedness of ecosystems, reflecting the Wildlife Week theme. Together, these activities reaffirmed ZSI commitment to conserving the unique flora and fauna of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and promoting public involvement in protecting the natural habitats that sustain them. Total of 30 students from different school participated in the drawing competition.
As part of the celebrations, the Centre also organised a Drawing Competition on 2nd October, 2026, with 30 participants. On 3rd October, 2026 organised awareness rally from Cellular Jail to ZSI. Dr. P. V. Nagendra Sharma, Principal, Andaman Law College, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, flagged off the rally as a Chief Guest, along with Mr. M. Vinod, President, AATO as a special guest. A total of 108 participants joined the event, including frontline staff from Department of Environment and Forests, members from Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), students & faculty from Pondicherry University & Andaman Law College besides staff members of ZSI. Participants carried banners and placards highlighting wildlife conservation, habitat protection and harmonious coexistence between people and wildlife. The rally raised public awareness about the importance of safeguarding wildlife and their habitats and encouraged community participation in conserving the islands unique biodiversity.
