It is brought to the notice of the general consumers and government departments that power supply will remain suspended in some of the following areas on 20.07.2013 from 0730 hours to 1230 hours to carry out urgent maintenance work on busbar support insulators of Phoenix Bay House.

It is also informed that the electricity bill cash collection counter of the Aberdeen Bazaar and Phoenix Bay site offices will remain closed on 20.07.2013 due to suspension of power supply.

The areas to be affected by power disruption are Vidhyut Bhawan, Electricity HQ Office, PBMC Auditorium, APWD CE Office, Secretariat, Court Complex, PAO, Raj Niwas, Gandhi Park, Light House, Phoenix Bay, Fisheries Jetty area, Anarkali, Delanipur, Quarry Hill, Phongy Kyaung, Foreshore Road, Megapode, Teal  House, Horticulture Road, Shristy Nagar, Marine Hill, Dugnabad, Cellular Jail, Atlanta Point, Aberdeen Bazaar site office area, G.B. Pant, Police HQ, STS Workshop, BSNL Bhawan, Model School area, Fire Brigade, ANIIDCO Bhawan area, Girls School, CCS Aberdeen Bazaar area, Supply Line complete, Netaji Stadium area, Jama Masid, Netaji Club and part of Gurudwara  Lane.

Port Blair, July 18:  The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers the Degree/ Diploma programmes in management viz Master of Business Administration (MBA), Diploma in Management (DIM), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDIM), Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM), Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management (PGDFM), Post Graduate Diploma in Operations Management (PGDOM), Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management (PGDMM) and Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Markets Practice(PGDSMP).

All programmes have multi-media design, and technology aided delivery systems. These are offered through countrywide network of study centres. Port Blair, July 17: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, visited Car Nicobar and paid floral tributes at the Tsunami Memorial at Big Lapathy. He also visited the Mus Church and paid tributes at the Bishop John Richardson Memorial.

During his visit, the Lt Governor interacted with members of the Tribal Council and on the occasion released the Crisis Management Plan developed by the Nicobar District Administration. The Lt Governor also inaugurated the Island Recreation Centre at Perka and inspected the gymnasium there. He inspected the houses constructed under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Plan (TRP) and also visited the Bee-Hive Hut/ traditional houses of the Nicobari community at Chukchucha and interacted with the residents there.

The Lt Governor has asked the Deputy Commissioner (CN) to prepare a Comprehensive plan for developing fisheries including canning and packing as a cottage industry. He also appreciated the offer of the traditional boat race at Port Blair/ Havelock in December.

Earlier, on arrival at Car Nicobar, the Lt Governor was given traditional welcome by the people there. The Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash and other senior officers of the Administration accompanied him during the tour.

Port Blair, July 17: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray today met the higher officials of the Directorate of Education and requested them to speed up the process of re-appointing the 465 Part Time PPT, PPA, SCC, SCM, PCM, Part Time Instructor, Ayah, Craft Instructor, Teachers etc. The officials have assured the MP that the Administration is actively considering the demands and necessary steps are being taken in this regard.

Port Blair, July 17: The Chairman, Andaman & Nicobar Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd (ANCOFED) Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has written a letter to Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Shri Sharad Pawar stating that a letter received from the Director (Coop) New Delhi revealed that the procurement of copra from the farmers under Price Support Scheme (PSS)  shall be restricted to 90 days only in a calendar year whereas the process of production of copra is undertaken by the farmers including tribal growers throughout the year in these islands.

Sharma stated that such procurement under PSS had started in these islands since the year 2000 and in every occasion till 2012 the procurement operation continued for a calendar year and even some time extensions were given beyond the time limit considering the plight of the farmers and remoteness of the area.

The Chairman further briefed that as per the present arrangement made by the Govt of India, if the procurement of copra is restricted to 90 days in a calendar year the community who are solely engaged in copra production for their livelihood will be affected badly. Sharma has therefore made a request that the copra procurement be allowed under PSS throughout the year in the larger interest of the farming community, particularly the tribal growers.

Port Blair, July 17: On 16th July 2013 a delegation of the State DMK led by Shri. A.R. Marudhavaanan met the Chief Secretary, Shri. Anand Prakash and Smti. Rina Ray, Principal Secretary and apprised them about the issue of Non finalization of BPL List and free books to students from class 1Xth to X11th.

The CS and the Principal Secretary gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured that the administration would do all possible help to the concerned students. They further stressed that the financial allocations and availability of books were being looked into and assured that by the next academic year the administration would be in a position to give free books to all students from class 1X to class X11.

The DMK party has thanked the A&N Administration for the assurances and hoped that the issues raised would be settled by the next academic session.

Port Blair, July 17: The Mahatma Gandhi International School conducted vaccination programme for the benefit of the students and its staff on the 17th July 2013.  A team from Shantha Biotecnics in Tandem with the Directorate of Health Services conducted the immunization programme against Hepatitus B and Thypoid in the school campus.

As many as 120 students, with the consent of their parents and 25 staff members were vaccinated on the same day. Prior to the vaccination Shri. Akhil and his team had visited the school to educate the students regarding both the dreaded diseases.
