Car Nicobar, July 22: Melodious Devotional songs presented by the choir groups of different villages were the main attraction of this year’s edition of St Mary Magdelene Church day celebrations at Malacca village.  In the Prayer song competition held at the St. Mary Magdelene Church Malacca today, the participating groups presented soulful prayers, which mesmerized everyone present over there. The Director of Sports and a local resident of Malacca Shri Lucas Robert presented his self composed Prayer song, which was instantly picked up by the youth choir groups and they sang it to perfection. The song is written in English, Hindi and Nicobari languages.

While addressing, Shri Lucas asked the youth to keep their love alive for music. The music is the gift of GOD and we have to respect and nurture it, he said.

Apart from the young singing groups of all the 15 villages, the leaders of the tribal council, village captains, Education officer Shri H. Nathaniel and the devotees from the different villages took part in the function.

Earlier the celebrations began with the prayer by the senior Rev James Philip and the priests of the different churches of Car Nicobar at Malacca church in the morning. After the prayer it was the breakfast time for the visitors. Every ‘Tuhet’ of the village was given the responsibility of arranging food for the visiting people of one village. Large crowd was seen at the stalls too, where the visitors showed interest in buying the home made articles and food stuffs.

It was the occasion for the people of other villagers to meet and interact with the residents of Malacca village. This kind of religious function solidifies the inter-village relationships, the secretary of the Tribal Council Shri Martin Luther said.

Port Blair, July 22: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray in his letter to the Lt. Governor has discussed in detail regarding the transfer and posting of teachers in the Southern Group of Islands. The MP said that the Administration is well aware of the problems being faced by the Govt. Servants posted to the Southern Group. Whenever the Govt. Servants are transferred to those remote islands, they either try their level best to get the transfer order cancelled or remain on leave or take political shelter or false medical ground to skip transfer, he said.

As per the existing transfer policy in general for employees of A&N Islands circulated by the Administration vide circular No 55-3/2007-PW dated 30.07.2007, Group ‘A’ & ‘B’ (Executive Engineer, Principal, Assistant Engineer, Vice Principal, Doctors etc.) are to serve two years in the Southern Group of Island while Group ‘C’ & ‘D’ (GTT, PST, Nurse, Junior Engineer, Clerk, Draughtsman, Head Clerk etc.) one year in Southern Group of Islands.

The Administration had also issued a transfer policy vide No. 55-3/2007-PW dated 12.04.2005 post-tsunami, which stipulates that the Teaching Staff shall be posted for a period of 10 months on rotation basis, considering the practical shortcomings. Whereas the Education Department is still following the old transfer policy of the year 2001 notified vide Notification No. 221/2001 dated 5th Dec. 2001, which stipulates:

Zone-I: Schools located in Nancowry, Katchal, Campbell Bay, Strait Island, Dugong Creek – 2 years.

Zone –II: Schools located in Car Nicobar/ Littla Andaman – 3 years.

Pointing out the effective Transfer Policy adopted by the A&N Police, the MP said that the Police Department has fixed tenure of 300 effective working days when posted to Southern Group of Islands and relive order assured after 300 days.

He further said that the Education Department has also issued further amendment in transfer policy in case of teachers who attained 55 years, which provides that “Teacher who attained the age of 55 years or above shall be considered for their desired place of posting taking into account their interest as far as possible subject to availability of vacancy.

There are also similar placed inaccessible places in North Andaman like Paschimsagar, Talbagan, Forest Encroachment areas, where there are no basic facilities such as road, water, electricity, accommodation etc.

Mentioning the above details the Member of Parliament has said that considering the practical problems being faced by Govt. Employees due to existing transfer policies and resultant problem in functioning of public service departments in remote islands, it is demanded to make necessary amendment in the transfer policy of all Govt. Departments, especially Health, Education, APWD, Clerical Cadre, Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry etc. to the effect that the tenure of employees posted to Southern Group of Islands and inaccessible remote areas of North Andaman shall be one academic year with assured relieve from the station after the fixed tenure.

Port Blair, July 22: The Directorate of IP&T has selected 18 unemployed youths from these Islands to undergo free training course (in the trade of Food Production and Food & Beverage) at National Institute of Tourism & Hospitality Management (NITHM) Hyderabad. The selected candidates has left Port Blair on 22/07/2013 by M.V. Nancowry, on arrival of the ship at Chennai the DRC, Chennai will make further arrangement for their onward journey to Hyderabad. The cost of the tickets will be reimbursed to the successful candidate after arrival at Port Blair.

The duration of the training is 30/45 days and commences from 29th July, 2013 onwards.

Port Blair, July 22: The Secretary-cum-Director Education has reviewed the implementation of Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the UT Administration and has issued necessary directions to all concerned officials of Education Department to take necessary measures for supply of safe & hygienic meal to the students. He has also reiterated to follow all instructions issued by the Directorate from time to time, a communication from the Asst. Director of Education (Plg) said here today.

Port Blair, July 22: The General Secretary Jan Kranti Party, A&N Islands in a letter to the Principal Secretary, Education has drawn his attention to the fact that the tender notice published in the Daily Telegrams dated 2nd July 2013 is objectionable as the EMD has been fixed to Rs. 10 Lakhs, which only a rich businessman can afford. The party has suggested that in order to encourage small traders and create employment opportunities, the tender should be made in small quantity according to the requirement of each DEO.

Port Blair, July 22: Dr. Amol Acharya has joined Chakraborty Multi Speciality Hospital, Dollygunj as a full time consultant. Dr. Amol Acharya has obtained his degree from GMC Nagpur, with extensive post doctor experience of working abroad in Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Sudip Chakraborty has welcomed him in his team, which now has strength of 09 doctors including 06 specialist and 02 super specialist doctors.

In a simple function organised as the Hospital senior citizen, Mr. D.L. Das of Prem Nagar inaugurated the ENT OPD.
