
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 13: Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, has laid the foundation stone for the repairing and resurfacing of roads and link roads at eight different locations i.e. Haddo Ward No.1, Junglighat Ward No.9, Anarkari Ward No.3, Dairi Farm Ward No.15, Shadiur Ward No.10, South Point Ward No.10 and Nayagaon, Ward No.12 in the Municipal area. These much-needed infrastructure works have been sanctioned under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) with the objective of ensuring smoother connectivity, safer transportation and hassle-free movement for daily commuters, pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
For a considerable period, these roads had remained in a deteriorated condition due to the financial constraints faced by the Municipal Council, which was unable to undertake the required repairs and maintenance. Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the inconvenience caused to the public, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray took proactive initiatives to address the issue.
Through his consistent efforts and dedicated follow-up, and with the support of the UT Administration, the necessary funds were successfully secured under the CRIF scheme from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. This intervention has paved the way for the timely execution of the long-pending road improvement works, bringing much relief to the residents of the Municipal area.
The foundation stone laying ceremony witnessed the presence of Chairperson of SVPMC, Ward councillors from the respective areas, members of the general public, and social workers. All those present expressed their appreciation for the sincere efforts and commitment shown by the Hon’ble MP in prioritizing public welfare and infrastructure development.
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the overall road conditions, facilitate better connectivity, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. The local residents have welcomed the move and conveyed their gratitude for addressing one of their longstanding concerns.
