Sri Vijaya Puram, June 4: Under the proactive directions of A&N Administration, a special team led by Director (Power), A&N Administration along with Superintending Engineer (Tech), Electricity Department have been deputed to Middle Andaman to closely monitor the situation to resolve the prevailing power issues in Mayabunder and Tugapur.
It is to bring to the notice of the general public, PRI Members, and all Government/Semi-Government Departments in the Mayabunder and Tugapur areas that the power supply in these areas has been adversely affected due to breakdown of 2×1500 KVA DG sets at Hiring Power Plant Panighat, Mayabunder on 31.05.2026. This has resulted in a power generation shortfall of approximately 800 kW in the affected areas due to which a rotational transformer wise power cut of two hours is being exercised.
The Department immediately after the breakdown has undertaken intensive efforts to restore power generation and one of the 1500 KVA DG sets was successfully revived and put into operation on 02.06.2026 at 1900 hrs. However, the DG set subsequently developed a technical fault after about three hours of operation. Meantime, efforts are being made to draw 600 kW power from Kalpong Hydro Electric Project (KHEP), Diglipur, but owing to the long transmission distance and dense forest cover along the route, frequent line faults are occurring resulting in intermittent disruptions in power supply.
The essential spare parts required for the repair of the affected one 1500 KVA DG set reached at site on 03.06.2026 (evening) and repair / rectification works are being carried out on a war footing and is expected to operationalize the DG set by 05.06.2026 evening which may normalize power supply in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the Electricity Department has deeply regretted the inconvenience caused to consumers due to the prevailing power deficit situation and sincerely appreciates the patience, understanding and cooperation extended by the general public, PRI Members, and all concerned Govt. / Semi Govt. Departments during this period.
