
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 14: The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), in association with the Cycling Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), successfully organised a Bicycle Rally on 13 June 2026 as part of the World Bicycle Day celebrations under the ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestones by Inspiring Women) League initiative.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from cyclists, tourism stakeholders, members of AATO, representatives of various tourism associations, and fitness enthusiasts from across the islands. Participants assembled at Chatham Jetty in the early morning hours and proceeded to North Bay, where the rally commenced from Chuna Bhatta and culminated at North Bay.
The event was flagged off by Smt. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Secretary (Tourism), A&N Administration, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In a remarkable display of encouragement and commitment towards promoting fitness and sustainable mobility, she actively participated in the rally, cycling alongside the participants throughout the route. Her gesture was widely appreciated by the cycling community and tourism fraternity.
Addressing the participants, Smt. Jyoti Kumari emphasized the importance of cycling as an eco-friendly and sustainable mode of transportation. She encouraged greater public participation in activities that promote health, wellness, environmental conservation, and responsible living. The rally was organised with the objective of promoting cycling as a healthy lifestyle choice, encouraging environmentally sustainable practices, and creating awareness about the importance of fitness and green mobility. Through this initiative, AATO reaffirmed its commitment towards responsible tourism, environmental stewardship, and community engagement in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. M. Vinod, President, AATO, highlighted the role of tourism stakeholders in promoting environmentally responsible practices and congratulated all the winners and participants for their enthusiastic involvement in the event.
Participation certificates were distributed to all registered cyclists, while prizes were awarded to outstanding performers in various categories. The programme received an overwhelming response and helped generate awareness about the benefits of cycling and sustainable living.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Saikat Biswas, General Secretary, AATO, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, the Tourism Department, Sports Authority of India, Cycling Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Police Department, Health Department, volunteers, media representatives, and all participants for their wholehearted support in making the event a grand success.
