
Car Nicobar, June 22: As part of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), the District Administration, Nicobar District in association with the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) and ICDS (Tribal Project) organized the DC Cup Badminton Championship–2026 today at Priyadarshini Hall, Tamaloo, Car Nicobar.
The championship was organized with the objective of promoting a healthy, active, and drug-free lifestyle among youth and the community under the theme “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Sports.”
The tournament was inaugurated by Shri Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. While commencing the championship, he emphasized the importance of sports as a positive avenue for youth development and urged everyone to adopt the message of “Nasha Mukt Bharat – Play Sports, Stay Healthy.” He highlighted that sports not only enhance physical fitness but also instill discipline, teamwork, and confidence, thereby helping young people stay away from substance abuse and other social evils.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Car Nicobar, Heads of Departments/Heads of Offices under Car Nicobar, representatives of the Tribal Community and the participants.
A large number of badminton players are participating in the DC Cup Badminton Championship–2026, demonstrating their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and commitment towards building a drug-free society. Participants from across the district are showcasing their skills and competitive spirit, while the event continues to receive overwhelming support from the community. The championship reflects the collective resolve of Nicobar District to achieve the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
