PS Shaheed Dweep Implements the Direction of Lt. Governor During Visit; Starts Self-defense Training Program “Aparajita”

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5: Following the directions of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, A&N Islands, during his visit to Shaheed Dweep, aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment by equipping girls and women with self-defence techniques, confidence and awareness to respond effectively to challenging situations and ensure their personal safety, a special Self-Defence Training Programme “APARAJITA,” for school girls and resident women of Shaheed Dweep was initiated on 05.10.2026 at Government Senior Secondary School, Shaheed Dweep. The programme was inaugurated by Smti. Pinky Das, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Neil Kendra, Shaheed Dweep.

The training programme commenced on 05.10.2026 with participation of 85 women and girls of Shaheed Dweep in the first batch (05th to 16th October, 2026). The programme is designed to equip young girls and women with essential self-defence skills and the confidence to respond calmly and effectively in situations where their personal safety may be at risk. The initiative also aims to take the message of women’s safety, awareness and empowerment directly to the community.

The programme reflects the commitment of the Police Department towards creating a safer and more empowered community while further strengthening the bond between the Police and the public. It encourages women and girls to approach the Police without hesitation and promotes a culture of safety, confidence and awareness.

The training sessions are being imparted by IRBn Commando HC/021105 Manoj, a Black Belt in Karate and NSG-trained Commando, with the support of PC S. Nirusha and PC Sunita Devi, under the supervision of SI P. Jeevan, SHO, PS Shaheed Dweep, and the able guidance and supervision of Shri Kathiravan E, IPS, SDPO (Swaraj Dweep).

The general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 112, 03192-232100 and 03192-236641. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
