Smart Girls Chess Tournament Ends with Applause and Prize Distribution Ceremony

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 13: The two-day Smart Girls (Under-19) Chess Tournament – 2025, held under the national flagship initiative “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, concluded today at the auditorium of Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, Sri Vijaya Puram, with resounding success and inspiring performances from over 200 girl players across the islands.

Organized by the Directorate of Education in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department and the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA), the tournament marked a significant milestone in promoting intellectual sports among girls and fostering gender equality through competitive chess.

Shri. Vikram Singh, Director (Education / Sports) was the chief guest for the closing ceremony, who gave away prizes and certificates to the winners.

In his address, he drew inspiration from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, encouraging the students to pursue their dreams with unwavering focus. He said, “Whatever goal you choose in life, make it your central idea—think of it, dream of it, live it every moment. Let it flow through your veins, energize your nerves, and guide every action you take. With such dedication, success will surely follow.”

After nine rounds of intense competition, the following players emerged victorious in their respective categories:

Under-19: Nandita (1st), Tanisha Raj (2nd), S. Vidhya (3rd)

Under-15: Keerthana J (1st), Chittiboina Mageswari (2nd), Kavya Raj (3rd)

Under-13: S. Varanya (1st), S. Sarisha (2nd), Parnita (3rd)

Under-11: G. Disha Meenakshi (1st), S. Bhavishya (2nd), Krishnapriya B. Rajesh (3rd)

Under-09: D. Charvi (1st), K. Lakshitaa (2nd), T. Aarohi (3rd)

Under-07: Aradhya Poddar (1st), B. Sravya (2nd), Abhira Dutta (3rd)

A Keerthisha has been adjudged as the best youngest player while K V Olina from Diglipur and Anushka Seal from Swarajdweep were recognized as the Best Inter-Island Players for their outstanding performances.

The tournament showed that chess is becoming more popular in the islands and proved that when girls are given the right opportunities, they rise, excel, and inspire. It echoed a larger message of empowerment, equality, and excellence in sports.
