TSG Bhasker Opposes Transfer of Pondicherry University Professor Accused of Sexual Harassment to Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 27: The Chairman of the Campaign Committee, ANTCC Shri. TSG Bhasker has raised strong objections to the transfer of Prof. C. Madhavaiah Chendragiri, a Professor and Head of the Department of Management at Pondicherry Central University, to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The professor is currently facing allegations of sexual harassment at the university’s Karaikal campus.

In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri TSG. Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee (ANTCC), condemned the university’s decision, calling it “discriminatory, irresponsible, and contrary to the principles of natural justice and UGC guidelines on the prevention of sexual harassment.”

According to the letter, while an enquiry is ongoing against four individuals in the case, three have been suspended, and Prof. Madhavaiah has been transferred to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a “punishment posting.”

“The move is deeply objectionable and undermines the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” said Shri Bhasker. “Such a transfer not only jeopardizes the safety and dignity of students in the Islands but also treats our territory as a dumping ground for those facing serious allegations. This is unacceptable and an insult to the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.”

Shri. Bhasker has demanded for immediate cancellation of Prof. Madhavaiah’s transfer to A&N Islands and requested to send him back to Pondicherry until he is cleared of all charges. The letter warns that if corrective action is not taken within 48 hours, the Congress Party will join students in protest and stage a sit-in strike until the demand is met.

“The Andaman & Nicobar Islands have always upheld high standards of safety, inclusivity, and respect in educational spaces,” Bhasker added. “We will not tolerate any action that compromises the security and well-being of our students.”

Copies of the objection letter have also been sent to the Chief Minister of Pondicherry, Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, and the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of Pondicherry University for necessary action.
