
Sri Vijaya Puram, March 27: As part of the ongoing TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – 100 Days Campaign, the District Health Society, South Andaman (NHM), under the guidance of Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, with a focus on the urban vulnerable population, successfully conducted a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Camp for construction site workers at the Bathubasti parking area (opposite Air Force Unit) yesterday.
The camp was organized with the objective of promoting early detection and raising awareness about tuberculosis, particularly among high-risk groups such as construction workers. A total of 78 individuals were screened, and all underwent chest X-ray examinations as part of the diagnostic process.
The general public have been advised that if they experience symptoms of TB such as persistent cough for more than two weeks, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or blood in sputum, they should approach the nearest Health Centre for screening and early diagnosis. TB is curable, and free diagnosis and treatment are available at all Government Health Facilities.
Such coordinated efforts of the District Health Society, South Andaman (District TB Unit), State TB Unit, and the Directorate of Health Services plays a vital role in achieving the vision of a TB-free Ward and Panchayat, contributing meaningfully to the larger goal of the TB Mukt Bharat Mission under the National TB Elimination Programme.
