
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 27: As part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) and the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), an awareness programme was conducted on 23rd June, 2025 at Seva Niketan by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), South Andaman, in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Police Anti-Narcotics – CID, and the Health Department.
The programme aimed to educate and empower the children and staff of the Child Care Institution (CCI) on various critical aspects of drug abuse and its prevention. Topics covered included the legal, psychological, physical, social, and economic consequences of substance use. Officials from the Anti-Narcotics-CID elaborated on the legal implications of drug trafficking, while the Health Department discussed the impact of substance abuse on mental and physical health, stressing the importance of healthy living and early prevention.
Children were made aware of the early signs of substance use, ways to protect themselves, and where to seek help in times of need. Important helpline numbers and support mechanisms were shared. The DCPU, South Andaman, skillfully coordinated and summarized the session, making it both engaging and impactful.
The Director of Social Welfare was the chief guest on the occasion. The Nodal Officer of Prohibition was also present during the programme. They addressed the children, encouraged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to a drug-free life. They also assured the continued support of the Department in creating a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for children.
