
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 3: As part of the initiative to promote freshwater aquaculture in the Islands, the Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration has commenced the fish seed distribution of Indian Major Carps to the farmers of the Islands at approved rates. In the first phase, a total of 81 packets of fish seeds of Indian Major Carps were distributed to 39 fish farmers of Calicut and Beodnabad Gram Panchayat today. The distribution took place in the presence of Shri T. Yaghambaram, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Calicut, and Shri R. Parmasivam, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Beodnabad.
The fish farmers were advised on best pond maintenance practices and regular feeding schedules to ensure successful rearing of seedlings to marketable size—maximizing both yield and economic return. The Department of Fisheries will publish subsequent distribution schedules for the remaining Panchayats in advance to ensure widespread farmer awareness and participations.
