District Health Society Conducts Training Session for College Students to Register as Volunteers Under Nikshay Mitra

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 21: As part of the ongoing TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – 100 Days Campaign, the District Health Society, South Andaman conducted a training session for the students of TGCE, JNRM and ANCOL to register as Volunteers to emphasize the critical role for psychosocial support under the Nikshay Mitra initiative.

The Senior Medical Officer (DRTB) delivered an insightful briefing to the participants on the concept and significance of the Nikshay Mitra initiative. He highlighted how community-driven support systems can play a transformative role in improving treatment adherence and the overall well-being of individuals affected by Tuberculosis. He also elaborated on the responsibilities of volunteers and how their engagement can bridge gaps in care through empathy and consistent support.

The training witnessed enthusiastic participation reflecting strong youth involvement in public health initiatives. Adding practical depth to the session, a councillor from Prayas JAC Society shared real-world experiences in providing psychosocial support, offering valuable insights and relatable examples for the volunteers.

The program concluded on a positive note with the successful registration of 26 new volunteers under the initiative. Furthermore, the District Programme Manager, DHS (SA), distributed participation certificates to attendees and encouraged them to register as Nikshay Mitras to extend psychosocial support to TB patients.

This initiative marks a significant step by the District Administration towards strengthening community participation and advancing the collective goal of a TB-free India.
