Embracing Unity and Wellness at the Southernmost Point: ANC Celebrates 11th International Day of Yoga

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 22: The Andaman Nicobar Command celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2025 through coordinated and enthusiastic participation across the Islands. The highlight was a sunrise yoga session at Indira Point, the southernmost point of Indian Union, attended by Lt Gen Dinesh Singh Rana, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM,Phd,Commander-in-Chief, Andaman Nicobar Command. Set against the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, the session embodied the spirit of jointness, unity with nature and national integration, with participation from personnel of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. 

The yoga session at Indira Point, conducted in the early hours amidst the tranquil coastal surroundings of Great Nicobar Island, reinforced the IDY 2025 theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” Led by trained instructors, the participants performed Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation in unison. The presence of senior leadership alongside troops and civilians demonstrated the commitment of ANC to holistic wellness, environmental consciousness and spiritual harmony at the Nation’s edge.

India’s message of peace and unity through yoga was spread across borders by conducting yoga sessions onboard INS Karmuk (Port Kalang, Malaysia) and INS Saryu (Belawan, Indonesia), strengthening regional maritime partnership and showcasing yoga as a medium of soft power diplomacy. Yoga sessions were also conducted across various forward and remote units of ANC, including Landfall Island, INS Kohassa (Diglipur), Air Force Station Car Nicobar, Coast Guard Station Kamorta, INS Kardip (Kamorta) and INS Baaz (Campbell Bay). Yoga session was also performed onboard Indian Naval and Coast Guard ships, both in harbour and on deployment, signifying the Command commitment to wellness under all operational conditions.

Simultaneously, a large-scale yoga event was conducted at INS Utkrosh,Shri Vijaya Puram  , where over 900 personnel and family members from all service components of ANC took part. The event was marked by dedication, discipline and fitness, highlighting the enthusiasm of the all ranks and their families. Demonstrations of yoga postures and breathing techniques promoted the values of physical endurance, mental clarity and spiritual balance among the troops.   

The International Day of Yoga 2025 celebrations across ANC reflected the transformative power of yoga in enhancing physical resilience, mental strength and emotional stability—qualities essential for the life of a soldier. The participation of leadership, troops, families and tribal communities underscored yoga’s ability to foster discipline, unity and inner strength. Through this large-scale, multi-location observance, ANC has reaffirmed its dedication to the well-being of its personnel and projected a powerful message that wellness and operational readiness are interlinked in the life of every defence professional.
