Monsoon Book Reading Festival 2025 Concludes with Prize Distribution at State Library

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 22: The Monsoon Book Reading Festival 2025 wrapped up with a vibrant valedictory and prize distribution ceremony at the Conference Hall of the State Library, Sri Vijaya Puram. Organized by the Education Department, the week-long festival celebrated the literary talent, creativity and enthusiasm of young readers from various schools.

Shri Vikram Singh, Director (Education), graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. In an engaging interaction with the students, he posed questions related to the history and culture of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, sparking lively participation and curiosity.

He also advised the students to reduce excessive use of mobile phones and instead make productive use of their time by engaging with books and spending more time in libraries. In his address, he remarked, “Books open the doors to imagination, and imagination is the beginning of achievement. Let reading be your lifelong companion.” He encouraged students to stay curious, take pride in learning, and develop a habit of regular reading.

He also urged the children to visit the State Library, where the staff are always ready to assist them. He emphasized that no membership is required to access the State Library’s facilities, students can simply walk in and avail themselves of this free and enriching service, which exists especially for their benefit.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by Smti Archana Singh, Deputy Director of Education (Plg)/Nodal Officer, State Library. She congratulated all participants and winners, acknowledging the excitement and commitment shown by students throughout the week. She emphasized the importance of reading in developing informed, thoughtful individuals and encouraged students to make full use of school and public libraries.

A brief report on the week’s activities was presented by Shri Sashi Kumar, Incharge, State Library. He shared that, under the guidance of the Director (Education), a variety of competitions had been successfully conducted including storytelling sessions, treasure hunts, quizzes, craft-making, story and slogan writing, and news reading. More than 850 students from different schools enthusiastically participated in the weeklong programme.

Students too shared their experiences, Kr. Hem Shankar, Class X, VKV School, Lambaline and Kri. Sana Shahid, Class VI, Vitala Public School, expressed that “this programme has provided a valuable platform for young minds to groom themselves and build confidence through reading and participation.”

The event was also a proud moment for many parents who were present to witness their children’s achievements. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Suresh J. Panicker, Librarian, State Library, Sri Vijaya Puram, who appreciated the efforts of all organizers, educators, and students in making the festival a grand success.
