Four Police Officers Conferred with Prestigious Police Medal for Meritorious Service

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 25: It is a matter of great honour and pride for A&N Police that four (04) of its officers have been conferred prestigious ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Service’ and ‘Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service’ for their illustrious and unblemished service on the occasion of 77 th Republic Day, 2026. The awards were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the eve of the Republic Day, 2026.

Sh. Naveen Kumar, Deputy Commandant (IRBn)

Shri Naveen Kumar, Deputy Commandant, India Reserve Battalion (IRBn), Andaman & Nicobar Police, has rendered distinguished and meritorious service since joining the force on 22 June 2006 as a Sub-Inspector (GD). An outstanding officer, he consistently excelled in professional training, securing top positions at the BSF Training Academy, Tekanpur, STC BSF Churachandpur (Counter-Insurgency & Jungle Warfare), and the Central School of Weapons & Tactics, Indore, where he stood first among All-India Police trainees.

Throughout his service, Shri Naveen Kumar has displayed exceptional leadership, courage, and operational competence, As Inspector and later Deputy Commandant; he has contributed significantly to training, security management, and modernization initiatives, including innovative inventory and health-management systems.

In recognition of his exemplary service, leadership qualities, and significant contributions to operational efficiency towards his duties, he has been conferred the ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Service’.

Sh. Amar Kumar Roy, Sub-Inspector (Fire&ES)

Shri Amar Kumar Roy, Station Officer (Fire Service), Diglipur, Andaman & Nicobar Fire and Emergency Services, joined the department on 01.06.1988 as Constable (Fireman) and has rendered over three decades of dedicated and meritorious service. During his career, he rose through the ranks to Head Constable (Leading Fireman), Assistant Sub-Inspector and Sub-Inspector (Station Officer).

Under his leadership, Fire Station Diglipur was adjudged the Best Fire Station – 2025 in N&MA District. He was also awarded the Deputy Commissioner’s Commendation Certificate on Republic Day 2025, in addition to several commendation certificates and cash rewards. No adverse remark has ever been recorded against him.

In recognition of his exemplary service, devotion to duty, and outstanding performance during firefighting and special service operations, he has been conferred the ‘Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service’.

Sh. S. Ramani, Head Constable/756

Shri S. Ramani (HC/756), appointed as Police Constable in 1994, has rendered long and unblemished service in the Andaman & Nicobar Police with dedication, sincerity, and professionalism. After completing his basic training at the Recruit Training Centre, Port Blair, he served in Police Lines, Police Motor Transport Unit, and various Police Stations including Campbell Bay and Nancowry, discharging his duties with commitment.

Shri Ramani has contributed significantly to the successful conduct of multiple Passing Out Parades, Republic Day and Independence Day Parades, and various sports and inter-unit competitions. His efforts in instilling discipline and professionalism among recruits have earned him several commendation certificates.

In recognition of his outstanding performance, unwavering dedication, he has been conferred the ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Service’.

Sh. Ibrahim Ali, Head Constable/1059

Shri Ibrahim Ali, presently serving in the Andaman & Nicobar Police, has rendered distinguished and unblemished service marked by courage, professionalism, and compassion. He initially joined the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force in 1994 and served in high-risk areas including Anantnag (J&K), Doda, Leh-Ladakh, and the Punjab–Haryana Secretariat, participating in counter-terrorist operations. After he joined the Andaman & Nicobar Police in 2002.

He has served with distinction in District Jail Prothrapur, CID Unit, and Police Station Aberdeen, contributing significantly to detection and investigation of serious crimes including NDPS, illegal timber, excise, and immoral trafficking cases.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Shri Ali remained continuously deployed for enforcement duties, transport of Covid-19 patients and deceased persons, and investigation of UDFIRs. In extraordinary circumstances, he personally arranged and performed last rites of unclaimed Covid-positive deceased with due permissions, reflecting exceptional humanity and sense of duty. He has been awarded multiple commendations, including DG Commendation Disc (2024).

In recognition of his exemplary service, dedication, courage, and humanitarian approach, he has been conferred the ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Service’.

Sh. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, DGP, A&N Islands and all ranks of A&N Police complimented all the awardees for the distinctions conferred on them and bringing honour to A&N Police. They wished them success for their future career.
