Port Blair, May 16: To carry out emergency repair works onboard the vessel MV Pilopanja presently providing service between Chatham & Bambooflat will be withdrawn from vehicle ferry service on May 17, 2024 from 0600 hrs onwards. However, all out efforts are being made by the Directorate of Shipping Services to rectify the defects and to resume the service at the earliest on top priority. The general public have been informed that the vessel MV Mus & MV Karmatang will be carrying out the vehicle ferry services between Chatham & Bambooflat. Commuters have been requested to cooperate with the Directorate of Shipping Services.

Pot Blair, May 16: A solemn function will be organized at the 'Memorial of Battle of Aberdeen' Water Sports Complex tomorrow (May 17) at 9 am to pay tribute to those Great Andamanese who lost their lives during the battle fought in the year 1859. Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency and others will pay their tribute at the Memorial.

Port Blair, May 16: Firing practice will be carried on Baffle Range, Brichgunj by ICG on May 18 from 9.30 am to 5 pm.  All concerned have been warned to keep themselves and their vehicle or livestock away from the firing area during the period of firing.

Port Blair, May 16: The general public and consumers of the Department of Electricity have been informed that shifting/removal of 33 KV underground power cables at Bambooflat Sub-Station will be carried out on May 18, 2024. During the work, there will be power interruptions in some areas of Port Blair and the South Andaman on an as-and-when required basis from 7 am to 12 noon and power supply will remain completely shut-down from Bambooflat to Wimberlygunj areas between 7 am and 12 noon. This outage is necessary to facilitate the shifting/removal of 33 KV underground cables from the yard at the Bambooflat Sub-Station.

Port Blair, May 15: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has proposed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to appoint three Nominated Members in South Andaman Zilla Parishad as well as N & M Andaman Zilla Parishad and reserve one seat for women.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament said that there is already a system in place of nominating three Nominated Councillors in the Port Blair Municipal Council. This initiative, he said, has undoubtedly contributed to enhancing management efficiency and effectively addressing public issues within the PBMC.
