Port Blair, Oct. 27: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has informed the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands that total 3669 students have passed 12th class from the Government and private schools in these Islands during the academic session 2019-2020. All together 6639 students have applied for admission for their higher studies in the colleges of JNRM, ANCOL at Port Blair and MG College at Mayabunder for the academic session 2020-21.  However due to acute shortage of intake of seats in JNRM & ANCOL at Port Blair and MG College at Mayabunder, these students are unable to get the admission for higher studies in these colleges.

11 Year Old Andaman Girl Donates Her Hair for Cancer Patients for the Third Time in a Row

Port Blair, Oct. 27: This is the third time that an eleven-year old Betty from Andaman & Nicobar Island has donated her long-grown hair for the Cancer patients getting treated in the mainland hospitals. It was first at the age of four that Betty donated her hair for the first time to Cancer Institute, Adiyar, which was followed by hair donation at the age of 7 years to Madat Foundation. Betty was expecting to donate early this year but due to Corona Virus Pandemic, things had got delayed. Finally the generous Andaman girl made it again today at the age of 11 years, when she could donate her 14 inches long hair.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: In anticipation of surge in demand of sweets, dry fruits and other eatables during the festive occasion the Food Safety Department has geared up its enforcement activities to ensure availability of safe, wholesome and hygienic food to the Islanders. The Commissioner Food Safety A&N Islands has constituted separate task force teams of Food Safety Officers to conduct special drive for carrying out inspections eateries and to collect surveillance samples for its analysis through Mobile Food Testing Lab and State Food Testing Laboratory. 

Port Blair, Oct. 27: To curb over speeding on roads, A & N Police has equipped its traffic unit with high-tech Speed laser guns for detection of over speeding by vehicles in the city.
