Port Blair, March 20: The District Administration, South Andaman through District Health Society will be celebrating World Tuberculosis Day on 24th March 2023 with the theme “YES! WE CAN END TB” under National TB Elimination Programme with the concept of Prevention, Awareness & Treatment (PAT). In this connection, various activities will be conducted under South Andaman district such as, Flash Mob/ Street Play at the prominent places of South Andaman, Double Wicket Cricket Knockout Match at Choudhary Pahad Ground, Bambooflat with the theme of “TB Harega Desh Jeetega” on March 22 and Bike Rally from Deputy Commissioner’s Office, South Andaman to Flag Point with the theme of “Yes! We Can End TB” on March 24.

Port Blair, March 20: A General Body meeting of the Little Andaman Branch of the ASNVMS was held at Hut Bay on 18th March 2023 evening. Addressing the workers of APWD, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU A & N State Committee briefly explained the agitations and the litigations carried out by the CITU and ASNVMS for getting the benefits of 1/30th of pay plus DA to daily rated mazdoors of APWD. He said that it was the CITU which was the only organization in the islands to launch agitations for implementing the Govt of India’s order of 1988 on the benefit of 1/30th of pay plus DA to Casual Mazdoors. Workers in many departments had to fight the case upto Supreme Court to get this benefit for them. CITU and ASNVMS had also conducted movements for getting the benefit of Bonus to daily rated mazdoors of APWD and other departments.

Port Blair, March 19: The Chief Secretary, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS arrived on a three days’ visit to Little Andaman today. On arrival at the Hutbay Helipad, the Chief Secretary was received by Tehsildar Hutbay, Shri Gopal Chandra Mosid, ZP Member, Shri Vasudevan Nair, Pradhans of Little Andaman, PRI Members and officials of different Departments. Soon after arrival, Chief Secretary visited Light House at Harminder Bay being maintained by Department of Light House & Light Ships. This Light House which is 45 metres long, has a width of 20 meter diameter and is one of the highest Light Houses in India. Shri Pabitra Kr. Halder, Navigational Assistant of the Department informed the Chief Secretary that the Light House is fully operated through solar energy which covers 22 nautical miles and helps in navigation of vessels crossing the Little Andaman. Thereafter, the Chief Secretary inspected the road from Hutbay Jetty to Harminder Bay and directed APWD to complete construction of the road work before the onset of monsoon.

Port Blair, March 19: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has suggested construction of one massive lake in one location or many small lakes at several locations to solve the water crisis issue of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He said that this proposal can also solve the problem of non-availability of earth for various developmental purposes, without hampering ecology.

Port Blair, March 19: Ms. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Secretary RD/ Deputy Commissioner (SA) accompanied with ADM (SA), SDM (SA), Up-Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad (SA), Director RD, BDO Prothrapur, Tehsildar Port Blair, Pradhan GP Beodnabad/Calicut, Panchayat Samiti Member, PRI members, visited various places where ongoing works on different schemes are being executed such as SWM Cluster Beodnabad. In the first instance the representative of Gram Panchayat briefed the officials on operations of Solid Waste Management cluster and further informed that around 500 kg of waste is being bailed on each working day.
