Mayabunder, June 5: The World Environment Day was celebrated jointly by District Administration of N&M Andaman, Department of Forest & Environment and Department of Agriculture under North and Middle Andaman with great zeal and enthusiasm under the guidance of Shri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman.

During the celebration of World Environment Day, plantation drives at roadside, Gram Panchayat Bhawans and Amrit Sarovars sites were carried out extensively in all 03 sub-divisions under North and Middle Andaman district. As many as 1656 saplings which include Neem (Azadirachta indica),Jack fruit, Mango, Amla (Indian gooseberry), Tamarind, Cashew-nut, Areca-nut, Lemon, Guava, Lemon, Sapota (Sapodilla), Custard Apple etc., were planted at roadside, Gram Panchayat Bhawans and Amrit Sarovars sites across the district.

Bambooflat, June 5: In an effort to promote environmental sustainability, Society for Promotion of Serve Humanity Among Youths (SPARSHA), a not-for-profit NGO registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, teamed up with the South Andaman Division of the Department of Environment and Forests, A&N Administration organised a Tree Plantation Drive at Rajiv Nagar, under Gram Panchayat Bambooflat-II, on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Port Blair, June 5: World Environment Day, 2024 was celebrated on 5th June at IGNOU, Regional Centre Port Blair. This event was organized in collaboration with Department of Environment & Forests, Port Blair. The progrmme was inaugurated by Shri Sandeep Divyajyoti Behera, IFS, DСА, Wildlife, Department of Environment & Forests, A & N Islands. This was organized to inculcate awareness for the conservation of earth for the future generations.

Car Nicobar, June 5: World Environment Day was celebrated at ICAR- KVK Nicobar, at Perka village. Mrs. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, DC, Nicobar was the Chief Guest. Mr. Paul David, Captain of Perka village was the guest of honour. A total of 50 farmers were participated in the awareness cum massive tree plantation.

In her address, the Chief Guest stressed on the effects of the pollution of Islands on coral reefs, which can impede coral growth, disrupt overall ecological function, and cause disease and mortality in sensitive species, including fish. She further emphasised that Environment Day is not to be celebrated only once a year; rather, we should make a commitment to celebrate each day as Environment Day for bundling safe and secure environment for the future.

Port Blair, June 4: In a landslide victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from A&N Parliamentary Constituency, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray defeated his nearest contender, Indian National Congress candidate, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma by a margin of 24,396 votes. The return of Bishnu Pada Ray in his 4th term as the Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Parliamentary Constituency for the 18th Lok Sabha, with such a big margin has made him the Vox Populi of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
