Port Blair, Oct 17: Fearing exposure of various failures of the Department of Information, Publicity and Tourism, the local administration kept the local private media at a distance during the recent visit of Union Home Minister, Mr. Amit Shah. The Information & Publicity department had asked the local media persons to submit photos & bio-data details for issuing Identity Cards for coverage of the Home Minister visit. However for reasons unexplained, private local media were not given the clearance to cover the VVIP visit.

Port Blair, Oct. 17: A seven member delegation of Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, A & N Islands met the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah today (17.10.2021) at Raj Nivas, Port Blair and held discussion on various demands of Government employees. The delegation also submitted a detailed memorandum to the Home Minister on long pending demands of Govt. employees and workers.

Port Blair, Oct. 17: World Student's Day is celebrated every year on October 15. The day is celebrated in honour of the birth anniversary of the former president of India, Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Kalam worked as a scientist and administrator at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Kalam also gave invaluable contributions towards developing India's civilian space and military missile programs before becoming the 11th president of India.

Port Blair, Oct. 17: The brave fire fighters of A & N Fire Service averted a major fire mishap by timely intervention and prompt action.  On 17th October, 2021 at about 0002 hours a message received at Fire Control Room stating that fire broke out in double storied wooden building near Community Hall of School Line, Port Blair.   Immediately, Water Tender and a Multi Utility vehicle with all essential accessories from Fire Station Aberdeen were pressed into the scene of fire. 

Port Blair, Oct. 14: Hon’ble Union Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah will be arriving on a three-day visit to A & N Islands tomorrow (Oct.15). He will be accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at Veer Savarkar International Airport by the Lt Governor, A&N Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Jitendra Narain, DGP, Shri Satyendra Garg and others. Soon after arrival, the Hon’ble Union Minister will visit the National Memorial Cellular Jail and lay wreath at the Martyrs’ Column. He will also visit the cell of Veer Savarkar and pay homage. The Hon’ble Minister will witness a cultural programme as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ followed by Sound & Light Show based on patriotic theme. Thereafter, the Hon’ble Minister will visit Flag Point and flag off the ‘Go Go Tourist bus’.
