Kisan Sabha Organises Mass Demonstration on Farmers’ Issues

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16: At the call given by the Andaman & Nicobar State Committee of All India Kisan Sabha, mass demonstrations by farmers were organized at South Andaman, Middle Andaman and North Andaman on 15th July, 2026, on the 12-point demands of farmers.  

At Ferrargunj, South Andaman District, the mass demonstration was held in front of the Tehsil Office, Ferrargunj.  Dr Gouranga Majhi, President, AIKS State Committee inaugurated the mass demonstration.  Senior leader D. Laxman Rao and R. Rajendran, Secretary, CITU State Committee also addressed the participants in the mass demonstration.  P. Sathyapal, Joint Secretary, AIKS State Committee and S. Chidambaram, Vice President, AIKS State Committee led the mass demonstration. 

At Billiground, the mass demonstration was held at Billiground bazar. SR Mridha, Secretary, AIKS A & N State Committee, inaugurated the mass demonstration. Prakash Sardar of Kisan Sabha also addressed the participants in the mass demonstration. 

At Diglipur, mass demonstration was held in front of the Assistant Commissioner’s office. Dilip Karmakar, Joint Secretary, AIKS State Committee inaugurated the mass demonstration. Barun Biswas, Secretary, CITU Diglipur Zonal Committee addressed the participants. Banomali Sarkar, CPI (M) SOC member, Neelu Mazumdar, Pradhan, Shibpur Gram Panchayat and Anil Howlader, AIKS State Committee Member led the mass demonstration. AVA Samad, Secretary, CPI (M) North Andaman Area Committee was also present on the occasion. Farmers from different Gram Panchayat areas of Diglipur Tehsil participated in the mass demonstration.  

The demands raised during the programme are (1) Make available enough fertilizers and pesticides on subsidized rates through Agriculture Department without interruption, (2) Supply of good quality seeds by Agriculture Department, (3) Subsidized fertilizers to all farmers without any minimum requirement of land area, (4) Stop black marketing of departmental fertilisers, (5) Increase the procurement price of milk from farmers, (6) Supply of fish seeds by Fisheries Department, (7) Fixation of minimum price of Rs. 400/- per Kg for arecanut from Farmers, (8) Implementation of MSP for mature de-husked coconuts, (9) Construction of sluice gates on proper locations, (10) Stop trade of fertilizers, pesticides, etc by private firms/ individuals, 11) Allot alternate agriculture land to Tsunami-affected farmers of South Andaman and (12) Land to all landless islanders.
