
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16: As part of observance of Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026, a nationwide initiative of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, aimed at reducing diarrhoea-related morbidity and mortality among children under five years, a community-based health education campaign was executed under Department of Community Medicine, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS). A total of 216 primary caregivers have been enrolled in the programme till date.
ANIIMS doctors conducted interactive health education sessions on diarrhoea prevention and management, including a practical demonstration of ORS preparation and administration. ORS packets were distributed to all caregivers while other sessions reinforced the importance of continued breastfeeding upto 2 years of age, zinc supplementation, hand hygiene, safe drinking water, environmental sanitation and timely medical care.
This campaign was implemented as part of a community-based research project being conducted in the field practice area of UHTC Haddo on Home Management of Diarrhoea among Children under the able guidance of Dr Mukesh Tripathi, Director, ANIIMS by Principal Investigator Dr Aanchal Anand and Dr Ajay Raj, Dr Samar Hossain and Dr Mitul Saha as co-PIs.
