MESSAGE

On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug and Illicit Trafficking, observed every year on June 26, I extend my heartfelt message of hope, strength and solidarity to the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

This year’s theme, “Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery for All,” calls for a united and compassionate approach to confronting the global challenge of drug abuse. It is a powerful reminder that every individual deserves access to support, dignity and the opportunity to heal and rebuild their lives.

Our Islands, known for their natural beauty, are also home to resilient and close-knit communities. On this day, we reaffirm our collective responsibility to safeguard our society—especially our youth—from the scourge of drug abuse. Prevention, timely intervention and inclusive recovery must go hand in hand to ensure a healthier and more compassionate future for all.

We must continue to invest in education and awareness, promote early intervention and provide access to quality treatment and rehabilitation. Let us empower our young people with knowledge, guide those in need with empathy and build a support system that embraces recovery without judgment.

Addiction is not a moral failing—it is a health condition that requires care, understanding and sustained support. Together, we can break the chains of stigma and silence, replacing them with empathy, connection and lasting change.

I urge every islander to be a pillar of strength in their community. Let us work hand in hand to create a society where prevention is a priority, treatment is accessible and recovery is celebrated.

May our collective efforts lead to a healthier, safer and more compassionate future for the generations to come.

Jai Hind!
