
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 13: In line with the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration’s directive to conduct quarterly mock drills across all Departments, the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, successfully conducted a comprehensive mock drill simulating an earthquake followed by a fire outbreak at the Inter-Island Helicopter Terminal building, Directorate of Civil Aviation, Sri Vijaya Puram today.
The exercise was organized in close coordination with the Directorate of Health Services, A&N Police Fire Services, and District Administration. The primary objective of the drill was to assess real-time emergency preparedness, evaluate Inter-Departmental coordination, and test the effectiveness of the response mechanisms during a disaster scenario.
The simulation commenced with a mock earthquake scenario, which led to simulated structural damage and triggered a subsequent fire in the designated zone. Fire & Emergency Services responded swiftly by deploying fire tenders to contain the blaze, while Search and Rescue (SAR) teams initiated prompt evacuation and rescue operations. Injured individuals received immediate first aid at the site.
Active participation was observed from the staff of the Directorate of Civil Aviation, the technical team of Pawan Hans Ltd., A&N Police Security Staff, and IRBN personnel. The coordinated efforts of all involved agencies contributed to the successful execution of the drill.
A debriefing session was conducted following the exercise, led by the Incident Commander. Observers from participating departments shared their assessments, commended the teams for adhering to standard operating procedures, and identified areas for improvement. Constructive recommendations were provided to further enhance resource readiness and strengthen the disaster response framework for future emergencies.
