Car Nicobar, July 16: As part of its on-going mission to build a disaster-resilient society, the 4 Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Regional Response Centre (RRC) in A&N Islands conducted a series of multi-day Community Awareness Programmes (CAP) across various villages in the Car Nicobar.
The extensive campaign kicked off on 6th July, 2026, at the Sawai Village’s Community Hall, catering specifically to the fishing communities of Sawai, Arong and Tee Top villages. This was followed by a session on 7th July at the Small Lapathy’s Community Hall for the fishermen of Small Lapathy, Big Lapathy, Kinmai and Mus villages. The drive concluded with a targeted session on July 8 at the Perka Village Community Hall, which saw active participation from local residents, tribal communities, and members of the local administration.
The primary objective of this initiative was to equip local boat operators, crew members, and residents with the vital skills necessary to handle marine emergencies, cyclones, tsunamis, earthquakes, and other natural or man-made disasters.
Through highly interactive lectures and live demonstrations, the NDRF team along with Zonal Fisheries Office, Nicobar District covered a comprehensive array of emergency protocols. The awareness drive witnessed an enthusiastic response, drawing a total of 142 participants across the district.
The immersive, life-saving demonstrations struck a powerful chord with the audience, particularly the local tribal communities, keeping them deeply engaged throughout. By empowering coastal communities with these critical survival techniques, the NDRF continues to strengthen grassroots preparedness against unpredictable marine and land-based hazards.
