Nicobar District Administration Carries Out Massive District-Wide Cleanliness Drive

Car Nicobar, June 15: The District Administration, Nicobar carried out a massive, district-wide cleanliness drive under the Government of India’s flagship initiative, Swachh Bharat Mission today. The campaign covered all villages, schools, healthcare facilities, markets, parks, and other public spaces across the Nicobar District.

The initiative is in alignment with the resolutions taken during the 18th NCORD Meeting, where it was unanimously decided that such cleanliness drives would be conducted on a fortnightly basis to promote hygiene, community well-being, and a drug-free and addiction-free society. Each Department has been entrusted with specific villages to maintain, ensuring a sense of ownership and accountability in this collective mission. This approach has enabled better coordination and sustained impact across the district. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from all line Departments, Tribal Councils, School authorities, Health Institutions, and most importantly, the local villagers, whose proactive involvement played a crucial role in the success of the campaign.

The Deputy Commissioner, Shri Amit Kale, IAS, lauded the commitment shown by the Departments and community members. He emphasized that sustained public participation is key to achieving long-term goals of cleanliness and creating an addiction-free environment. He encouraged all stakeholders to continue their efforts and take pride in keeping their surroundings clean, green, and healthy.

This initiative marks a significant step towards building a cleaner, more sustainable Nicobar District, reinforcing the Administration’s strong commitment to grassroots cleanliness, public health, and inclusive governance.
