Secretary AH&VS Visits Annapurna Gaushala as Part of Livestock Review and Gaushala Activities in the Isles

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: The Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, visited Annapurna Gaushala, Calicut yesterday as part of her ongoing review of livestock welfare and Gaushala activities in the Islands.

The members of the Gaushala Committee including Swami Suddhananda Saraswati welcomed the Secretary AH&VS and gave a tour of the facility. The Secretary interacted with the management and staff of the Gaushala to assess the facilities, animal care practices, and ongoing welfare initiatives. It was informed that the Gaushala provides shelter to ownerless and abandoned cattle and is well equipped to provide feed and fodder.

Since its inception, the Gaushala had provided shelter and treatment to many cows who were victims of road accidents. There is a plan for extension of the facility and will include a clinic for providing health care to injured animals.  Secretary (AH) appreciated the efforts of the Gaushala and assured that the Department of AH&VS will provide all possible assistance for treatment and guidance for management of the animals.  The Secretary (AH) was accompanied by Director, AH&VS, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Calicut, and Senior Veterinary officers.
