
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 29: Statistics Day was celebrated in the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, A&N Administration today with the theme ‘75 Years of National Sample Survey’ to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Late Professor P.C Mahalanobis, Father of Indian Statistics and to celebrate his notable contribution in the field of Statistics. The Statistical personnel from line Departments of the Administration attended the function.
Shri Bappa Saha, ISS, Assistant Director, National Statistics Office (NSO), Field Operation Division (FOD), Sri Vijaya Puram was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, he acknowledged the contributions of Statistical personnel in National Sample Survey (NSS) since its inception in 1950. The NSS, under the National Statistics Office (NSO), has been instrumental in providing reliable and timely Statistical data through scientific sampling methods, supporting evidence-based decision –making and governance in India, he said.
Earlier, Shri Gaurang Mishra, Director of Economics and Statistics welcomed the chief guest & Statisticians present and briefed about the importance of Statistical day and further added that Statistics Day is not just a day of celebration it represents a continuous effort to promote Statistical literacy. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Smti Ragini Sakthi, Statistical Officer.
