Port Blair, August 5: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, has sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh each from Lt Governor’s Relief Fund to the next of kin of the two children who lost their lives in a tragic incident of drowning that took place in a pond at Garacharma village on July 28th 2013.

Kumari Sujata Sardar, aged 08 years, D/o Shri Barun Sardar and Kumari Maheswari, aged 11 years, D/o Shri Duari Raj, residents of Bathubasti (Near St. Mary School) and had gone for collection of vegetables into the fields, accidently slipped into a pond and drowned. Parents of both the girls are working as private labourers.

Port Blair, Aug. 5: The Part-time Re-trenched Employees Union (Education), A&N Islands today launched a beefed up dharna at Tiranga Park, Port Blair to press their reinstatement in the respective service in the Education Department. The employees were re-trenched from service after rendering 3-25 years or service in the department.

In the dharna, speakers said that they were misguided by some political leaders who gave false assurances to regularize their services. But the fact remains that retrenched employees have been deprived of their legitimate rights, they said.

The employees had approached the Member of Parliament, who assured them to stand beside them in their struggle till the settlement of the issue.

The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray also sat in the Dharna with the employees and blamed the Congress Party and its associate officials for betraying the retrenched employees. The secret plot was designed by the Congress party to retrench the poor workers for gaining narrow political mileage by making them scapegoat, the MP alleged.

Meanwhile the newly formed Union members are determined to struggle till their services are regularized and they are reinstated. The MP also expressed his belief and trust on the present Lt. Governor to resolve the issue.

Port Blair, Aug. 5: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of A&N Islands for the kind response in the matter of counting of past services of 495 Electricity Mazdoors from the date of actual engagement, only for the purpose of retirement and pension benefits.

It is for the first time that the Hon’ble Lt. Governor has himself acknowledged the letter of the Member of Parliament, Ray said.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor has taken the issue seriously and given directions to the concerned officers to process the case of expeditious implementation of orders of Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta Bench at Port Blair in the matter of Shri J. Lokanathan & Ors – versus Union of India and others in WPCT No. 666/2012.

Port Blair, Aug. 5: An “Annaprasan Ceremony” was organised today at Bathubasti by Community Food & Nutrition unit as part of Breast Feeding Week Celebration in coordination with the Directorate of Social Welfare. On the occasion Annaprasan was given to fifteen children of various Anganwadi Centres. Shri.Sanjay Meshack up-pramukh Port Blair Panchayat Samiti was the Chief Guest on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Meshak spoke about exclusive breast feeding and introducing complimentary feeding to the babies after six months so that infant mortality rate can be reduced.

Shri. Armugham, Pradhan of Garacharma- 1 spoke about the importance of social support which increases mother’s support on her ability to breast feed.

The CDPO of Urban Project Smt Zarina Bibi speaking on the occasion highlighted the scope of supplementary feeding programme and various other advantages of ICDS schemes.

Smt. Suma Sreedharan, OIC, Food and Nutrition Unit spoke about the importance of Breast feeding and disadvantages of bottle feeding.

The programme was attended by Mother’s, Samiti members, Mukhya Sevikas and Anganwadi workers.

Earlier on 2nd August, a Recipe competition was also held at Ferrargunj project in which Anganwadi workers and Mukhya Sevikas were present.  Prizes to the winners of the competition were distributed by CDPO Ferrargunj Smti. Irene Nicolas.

Port Blair, Aug 4: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh visited Rangat yesterday where he held a meeting with the PRI members and many residents at the Zilla Parishad auditorium. The LG patiently listened to the problems and suggestions of the people and addressed the gathering. He also shared his vision and focus areas for the progress and betterment of the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 

Later, the Lt. Governor visited Govt. Secondary School, Billiground, and took a round of the school and inspected the arrangements there for the mid-day meals. He further directed the Authorities to improve the basic facilities in all the schools. He inspected the condition of roads in Harinagar and issued directions to the concerned Authorities for immediate repair of the roads.

The Lt Governor also visited Cutbert Bay Tourism Guest House and issued directions for immediate repair and renovation of the guest house.  Thereafter, the Lt Governor visited the Nature Walkway at Dhaninallah and appreciated the facility created.

Port Blair, Aug. 5: In the Conference of Pradesh Congress Party held on 4th July, 2013 in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium, Shri RP Singh, retired officer of A&N Administration has joined the Congress Party. Singh has stated that only Congress Party can bring all round development in the Country. Singh has also stated that in the present Political scenario of A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President is the best choice as the leader of the general public and these islands.

Sharma Briefs Gathering of His Efforts to Solve Issues Faced By Islanders 

Port Blair, Aug. 4: A Conference of Pradesh Congress Party was staged in Dr. BR Ambedkar Auditorium today from 9.00 AM under the leadership of PCC President Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma.

Addressing the gathering, Sharma praised the peace loving islanders who, irrespective of caste, creed, culture, language and religion, stay here with the motto of brotherhood and have set an example for the country.

Sharma also briefed about the various flagship programmes of the UPA Government viz RTI, MNEREGA, Bharat Nirman, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, NRHM, Right to Education and Right to Food etc. which have been helpful to the people of all walks of society and discussed over the burning issues prevailing in these islands. He said that Congress Party always believes in solving the issues by taking it up with the A&N Administration and at various levels in the Central Ministry.

He also informed the gathering that recently he had a met the Home Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Sinde and requested for regularization of cases of encroachment upto 2002 and allotting 200 sq mtr of land to all islanders for construction of house. Besides he has also requested for creation of Andaman & Nicobar Public Service Commission for recruitment  to the posts of Andaman & Nicobar Administration, subsidy in Air India and other airliner flight fare and to start new sectors, creation of sufficient Posts of staff nurses, teachers and other posts and has also asked 3000 crore rupees as  special package for Employment Generation.

Under the limitation of the constitution, Sharma said that he would move the matter of OBC status to various categories of Islanders. On the issue of employment generation, the PCC President stated that this is the era of information technology and maximum employment can be generated through this sector. It would also enhance Fisheries and tourism sectors and assured to draw the attention of the A&N Administration to give more focus on these fields.

Others who spoke on the occasion were AR Manickam, PB Murugan, Selvam, Raja Ram, Singaram, Rajeev Chander, Jay Raman, Manimurugan, Smti Tamilarasi, A Manickam, Tamil Selvam, Smti Bhanumathi, Muthuraman, Arokiaswamy, Smti Panchvarnam.
