CITU Organises Convention of Workers as Part of WFTU’s International Action Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 4: The CITU Andaman and Nicobar State Committee has organized a Convention of Workers at Port Blair on 3.10.2026 in connection with the International Action Day of World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). The International Action Day is observed every year on the occasion of foundation day of the WFTU.  This year’s slogans for the International Action Day were (1) Science & Technology in the service of humanity and not of monopolies and the oligarchy of wealth, (2) Work with rights for the satisfaction of the contemporary needs of workers and (3) An economy for progress and not for war and destruction.

Addressing the Convention, R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee, who presided over the Convention, briefly threw lights on the slogans of this year’s International Action Day. 

Speaking on the occasion, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee said that the benefits of science and technology world over are accumulated in the hands of a small section of multinational companies and it does not reach the common man.  He said that scarce resources in many countries in the world are spent on war and destruction.  

Addressing the Convention, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee emphasized the need for a united fight by the workers to protect the rights they have achieved over the years. 

Anand Rajan, Treasurer, CITU State Committee also spoke on the occasion. P. Sathyapal and S. Chinnaiah, Secretaries of CITU State Committee, were also present on the occasion.   Workers from various unions at Port   Blair town attended the Convention.
