Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5: It has been brought to the notice of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, during his visit to G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram, that patients requiring surgical treatment are, in certain instances, being advised to procure surgical consumables, surgical sutures and other essential surgical items from the outside market.

It is hereby informed to the general public that regularly used surgical consumables, surgical sutures and other essential surgical items required for patient care are available in the Health Institutions under the Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration. Patients and their attendants are, therefore, advised not to purchase surgical consumables, sutures or other surgical items required for their treatment from outside on their own.

In case any patient or attendant is asked or advised to purchase such items from outside, they are requested to immediately report the matter to the Director of Health Services, A&N Administration, along with relevant details, so that the matter may be examined and appropriate action taken.

Pursuant to the directions of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, a Circular has been issued to all hospital authorities and treating doctors directing them not to advise or require any patient or their attendant to purchase surgical consumables, sutures or any other item required for treatment from the outside market, and to strictly follow the procedures and instructions laid down in the said Circular.

The Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration, is committed to ensuring the availability of essential medicines, surgical consumables and medical supplies to patients through the Government healthcare system and to ensuring that patients are not subjected to unnecessary financial hardship.

The Directorate of Health Services also solicits the cooperation of the general public in bringing any such instance to the notice of the Department, so that necessary corrective measures may be taken in a timely manner.
