AATO Takes Up Fuel Supply Issue Affecting Boat Operators in Baratang

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 17: The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) has taken up with the concerned authorities the issue relating to the supply of petrol to registered boat operators, particularly in Baratang, following the implementation of the Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel (Temporary Regulation of Supply through Retail Outlets) Order, 2026.

The recent restrictions on dispensing fuel into containers have created difficulties for boat operators who rely on petrol-powered outboard motors for operating tourist and passenger boats. As there are no dedicated marine fuel dispensing facilities in many locations, including Baratang, boat operators depend on authorised retail outlets for procuring fuel required for their daily operations.

AATO noted that the issue has the potential to affect tourism activities, local transportation services, and the livelihoods of numerous stakeholders dependent on the sector. Baratang is one of the Islands’ key tourism destinations, attracting visitors to attractions such as the Limestone Caves, Mud Volcano, and Parrot Island, all of which depend on boat transportation.

Recognising the urgency of the matter, AATO President Shri M. Vinod discussed the issue with the Secretary (Civil Supplies), A&N Administration, seeking a practical solution that would enable genuine and registered boat operators to continue procuring fuel for their vessels. Simultaneously, AATO General Secretary Shri Saikat Biswas has taken up the matter with officials of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and has highlighted the operational challenges being faced by the tourism and boating community.

The Association has requested the authorities to permit the supply of petrol to registered boat operators against production of valid boat registration certificates and other relevant documents, ensuring that fuel reaches only genuine operators while maintaining compliance with the Government’s regulatory framework.

AATO has expressed confidence that the issue will be resolved shortly, based on the positive response received from the concerned authorities. The Association remains committed to protecting the interests of its members and ensuring the smooth functioning of tourism-related activities across the Islands.

AATO will continue to closely monitor the matter and keep stakeholders informed of further developments.
