Anti-Narcotics Police Station Conducts Month-Long Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 30: In a sustained effort to combat the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station conducted an extensive month-long Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign from 01.04.2026 to 30.04.2026 across various parts of Sri Vijaya Puram, Swaraj Dweep and Kadamtala.

The campaign was carried out under the supervision of Inspector K. Binoj, SHO, Anti-Narcotics Police Station, under the leadership of Smti. Suma Madda, DANIPS, Dy. Superintendent of Police (Narcotics).

During the campaign period, a total of 11 anti-drug awareness programmes were conducted, covering 1199 participants, including students, youth, Governemt Servants, local residents, PRIs and stakeholders. These programmes were organized at schools, colleges, Government Organizations, Panchayats, tourist spots, fish landing points, and other public places to maximize outreach and spread awareness on the harmful effects of drug abuse.

As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, focused anti-drug awareness programmes are regularly conducted in coordination with Panchayats, Educational Institutions, Social Welfare Board, Education Department, and IRCA (Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts). These initiatives aim to educate the community on the dangers of drug consumption, legal consequences, and the importance of early prevention and rehabilitation.

The awareness sessions were delivered by resource persons from Anti-Narcotics Police Station, namely SI Manoj Lal, ASI Surya Narayan, ASI S. Thimmi Raj, and ASI Sanjay Yadav, along with HC/786 Abdul Salam, HC/1185 Laxman Rao & PC/2837 Anup Das who actively engaged participants through interactive sessions, lectures, and community outreach programmes focusing on drug prevention and awareness.

The campaign also highlighted the availability of support systems such as the MANAS Helpline-1933, which provides assistance, counselling, and guidance to individuals affected by substance abuse and mental health issues. Citizens were encouraged to utilize such services for timely help and rehabilitation.

The campaign included distribution of pamphlets, display of anti-drug posters, installation of standees, and motivational talks emphasizing a drug-free lifestyle. Special focus was given to youth, encouraging them to stay away from drugs and become ambassadors of a healthy and responsible society.

Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), A&N Islands, appreciated the initiative and reiterated that drug awareness and community participation are vital in eliminating drug abuse and trafficking. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and actively support law enforcement agencies in this fight against drugs.
