CRY Observes World Day Against Child Labour

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 16: To commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour, Child Rights and You (CRY), in collaboration with key stakeholders from the ICDS Department, Health Department and Education Department, organized awareness programmes at Machi Basti, Dairyfarm and Junglighat from 12 to 15 June. The event aimed to raise awareness about child rights, the importance of education, and the collective responsibility of society in eliminating child labour.

The programme witnessed active participation from children, adolescents, parents, community members, Anganwadi workers, health officials, teachers, and local stakeholders. Resource persons highlighted the adverse impact of child labour on children’s health, education, safety, and overall development. Discussions focused on the legal provisions against child labour, the importance of school enrolment and retention, and the need to create a protective environment for all children.

Representatives from the ICDS Department emphasized the significance of early childhood care and nutrition, while Health Department officials discussed the physical and psychological consequences of child labour. Education Department representatives encouraged parents and community members to ensure that every child remains in school and has access to quality education.

Awareness activities, interactive discussions, and child participation sessions were conducted to promote children’s rights and strengthen community vigilance against child labour. Participants were encouraged to identify and report cases of child labour and support vulnerable children in accessing education and welfare services.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to work together towards the elimination of child labour and to ensure that every child enjoys a safe, healthy, and educated childhood.
