Port Blair, April 10: A series of earthquakes of medium intensity are being experienced in the Nicobar group of islands since early morning today. The first jolt of 5.2 on the Richter’s Scale was reported at 0718 Hrs followed by 4.7 at 10.25 Hrs, 4.5 at 1615 Hrs, 5.0 at 1628 Hrs, 5.1 at 1912 Hrs and 5.0 at 1958 Hrs. Though the tremours were felt at Campbell Bay in the Great Nicobar Island, no damages to life and property was reported. Source: SEOC

Port Blair, April 8: The District Magistrate, South Andaman, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS through an Order No. 313 issued today (08.04.2022) has withdrawn the order enforcing fines for violation of lockdown guidelines. The decision for withdrawing fines was taken as per the directions of the MHA.

Over the last 24 months, significant capacities have been developed for various aspects of management of the pandemic, such as diagnostics, surveillance, contact tracing, treatment and vaccination, hospital infrastructure and the general public has much higher level of awareness on the COVID appropriate behaviour.

Port Blair, April 8: Gram Panchayat Ramnagar in association with the Forest Division, Diglipur organized a beach cleanliness and plantation drive at Ramnagar Eco Tourism Beach to mark the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The drive was inaugurated by Shri.Kuldeep Sharma (I.F.S), Divisional Forest Officer, Diglipur, accompanied by Shri. Ajit John, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Diglipur and Shri Alkab Hasan, Ranger Forest Officer Kalighat.

Port Blair, April 8: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to provide age relaxation for islanders in all government jobs by three years.

In his letter to the Lt. Governor, the MP mentioned that due to Covid-19 pandemic, the entire world came to a standstill for several months and for nearly two years many crucial government works like recruitment to various posts in Andaman & Nicobar Islands could not be conducted.

Port Blair, April 8: In order to have a first-hand look at the ongoing centrally sponsored scheme works of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna undertaken by the Port Blair Municipal Council, the Chairperson PBMC Smti. Kavitha Udhaya Kumar alongwith the Sr. Vice Chairperson, Shri.Azizur Rahman and Smti. D.Radhika, Chairperson, Sub Committee Works Town Planning & Improvement, visited various sites at Birdline Ward No-23. A team headed by Shri. Avinash Kr Singh, Superintending Engineer (I/c) and Shri. V.Jayakumar Architect, PBMC along with officials of the Engineering Wing were also present during the visit.
