Port Blair, Aug. 3: The Hon’ble Justice Amrita Sinha and the Hon’ble Justice Ananya Bandyopadhyay, Judges of the Calcutta High Court shall be sitting/ holding Circuit Court at Port Blair on and from Aug. 14 to 25, 2023 (both days inclusive).

Port Blair, Aug 3: Due to strong monsoon current, wind speed exceeding 45 kmph is likely to prevail over Andaman Sea and neighborhood. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till Aug. 4.

Port Blair, Aug 2: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon'ble Lt. Governor for immediate action to address the worsening traffic conditions in Port Blair City by constructing flyovers.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament highlighted the daily struggle faced by residents due to multiple traffic jams on various city roads. He attributed the problem to the growing number of vehicles and the narrow roads, which were designed several decades ago. If left unattended, the situation is expected to worsen in the next 2 to 3 years due to the city's rapid population growth, he said.

Port Blair, Aug. 2: The Andaman & Nicobar Administration in coordination with National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), MHA, GoI, New Delhi organized a training programme on Incident Response System (IRS) for the Incident Response Teams of UT Administration in the conference hall of Secretariat here today. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Permission for Abstracting Ground Water to be Accorded Only for the Purpose of Drinking Water

Port Blair, Aug 2: The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Smt. Veditha Reddy, IAS, held a meeting with stakeholders of Central Ground Water Authority and bulk water suppliers in South Andaman District today.

The Deputy Commissioner (SA) along with Sub-Divisional Magistrate, South Andaman and the officers of CGWA Cell of Central Ground Water Board, Eastern Region, Kolkata apprised the procedures to obtain permission for operation of bore well and also briefed about the do's and don'ts of ground water extraction. It was informed that permission to abstract ground water through any energized means will not be accorded for any purpose other than drinking water. The permission would be granted by the Authorized Officer in consultation with the advisory committee constituted for this purpose.
