Port Blair, Sept. 3: To create awareness and to inculcate the school children about the harmful effect of the Single Use Plastic (SUP) on human beings and environment including flora, fauna and Marine environment, Andaman and Nicobar Pollution Control Committee (ANPCC), Department of Science and Technology (DST) organized a sensitization programme in Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Goal Tekri, Kamorta Island on Aug. 29 and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Champin, Nancowrie Island on Aug. 30.  The environmental movies related to harmful effect of plastic were screened on both the schools. The Member Secretary, ANPCC-cum-Director, Science & Technology interacted with the students of both the schools and explained concisely about the banned SUP items and the harmful effect on the environment and human beings.

Tourism Deptt. in Coordination with Tourism Stakeholders Conducts Beach Cleanliness Drive at Shaheed Dweep

Port Blair, Sept. 4: The Tourism Department conducted beach cleanliness drive today at Bharatpur Beach, Shaheed Dweep, a preferred tourist destination in South Andaman frequented by a good number of National and International tourists.  The Beach cleanliness drive was carried out as part of ‘Clean Coast, Safe Sea’ campaign launched by GoI.

D Ayyappan, Chairman, JNRM Alumni Association, Port Blair, deeply mourn the sudden demise of Smt Thankamma Thomas, retired Lecturer, JNRM and wife of Dr OJ Thomas, former HoD (English), JNRM at Ernakulam, Kerala on 2nd September, 2022. She was 79 years old. JNRM Alumni Association pays homage to her memory and conveys its heartfelt condolences to the members of bereaved family.

Port Blair, Sept. 4: The vaccination drive is continuing smoothly in A&N Islands. As per data available, a total of 6,97,109 doses of vaccine have been administered to beneficiaries in the age group of 18 and above so far. Similarly, 23,955 beneficiaries have been vaccinated in the age group of 15 to 18 years. 28, 393 beneficiaries in the age group of 12 to 14 years have been administered both doses of vaccine. The number of beneficiaries administered precautionary dose of vaccine so far stood at 2,57,679.
